The Smart Futures platform offers a structured K–12 career development progression. Students build self-awareness, explore career clusters, complete interest inventories, and develop individualized career plans. The continuity from elementary through high school creates clarity and direction over time.

Students receive hands-on support in building professional resumes, digital portfolios, and interview skills. This practical preparation increases confidence and equips students with tangible tools for college applications, scholarships, internships, and employment.

Virtual career fairs connect students directly with professionals across diverse industries. These events provide exposure to real-world pathways, educational requirements, and workforce expectations, helping students make informed post-secondary decisions.

One-on-one guidance helps students navigate post-secondary options, whether college, trade school, military, or direct workforce entry. Individualized advising ensures that students’ plans are aligned with their strengths, goals, and graduation requirements. For high school students, independent study options are also available, allowing them to explore specialized interests and earn credit while tailoring learning to their personal and career goals.

The entire program is driven by cultivating students' interests and goals. Currently, opportunities span virtual, in person, and hybrid options, such as completing learning or internship work both online and on site.

Curriculum Connections

Career Services partners with Ó£»¨¶¯Âþ's High School Counselors and Administration to provide comprehensive career planning and practice opportunities for college-bound and career-focused students, bridging academic studies with real-world professional environments. The program emphasizes developing critical skills like advanced communication, leadership, project management, and digital literacy. Students work directly with Career Educators in required Career courses: 9th-grade Digital Literacy, 10th-grade Reaching Your Academic Potential, 11th-grade College and Career Goals, and 12th-grade Capstone Graduation Project. Within these courses, students continue to develop a portfolio of experiences valuable for college applications and future careers.

Gaining Practical Experience

Additionally, all seniors complete a capstone graduation project, a longstanding tradition at Ó£»¨¶¯Âþ that is student-driven and based on career and academic interests. Students learn the skills of planning and conducting research, developing a paper/project, and presenting it to a staff committee.

Collaborating for Student Success

Students explore colleges, careers, and more through the Naviance platform. School counselors support the work of Pathways to Purpose and provide additional layers of support through individual and group sessions in addition to course advisory and scheduling.
